In re Public First Law Center (McCoy v. Kakehi)

Public First objected to a motion to seal summary judgment exhibits filed by State Department of Human Services, Child Welfare Services Branch (CWS) employees in Archie John McCoy v. Lena Kakehi et al., 21-CV-63 SASP-RT.  McCoy alleged that the CWS employees engaged in judicial deception violating his constitutional rights in a family court proceeding that terminated his parental rights.  The CWS employees sought to dismiss McCoy’s claims as a matter of law on a motion for summary judgment and submitted numerous documents from CWS files and state family court records to justify dismissal.  The employees, however, asked the judge to hide those supporting documents from the public in their entirety.  Public First filed an objection.  The issue will be decided by the Honorable Shanlyn A.S. Park.  No. 25-MC-383.
