Hawai’i County Short Term Vacation Rentals

In 2018, the Hawai’i County Council passed Bill 108 (codified as Hawai’i County Code chapter 25, Article 4, section 16 – 16.3).  That law required the county to maintain a list of all registered short term vacation rentals and track complaints regarding non-compliance.  Public First requested and obtained the list of registered providers and the three most recent complaints received by the Planning Department.  In December 2025, the Council passed Bill 47 (not yet codified), which will require hosting platforms to file monthly reports with the Director of Planning beginning this summer.
