The State Department of Law Enforcement acquired 15 fixed automated license plate readers in June 2024 for approximately $100,000 (which included a related annual cellular subscription plan).  As of May 2026, the cameras have been tested, but are not in active use while the Department develops policies and procedures.  Public First requested information about the Department’s use of ALPRs.  The Department provided the purchase contract and information about the software used.  It also provided a “detection”–during the test phase–for a specific vehicle owned by a member of Public First’s staff (document not posted).
