C.D. v. L.J. (Confidential Flag)

On March 8, 2024, the Law Center requested and was denied access to the appellate case file in CAAP-23-301.  Aside from the case number and initiation date, nothing was publicly accessible regarding the case.  Although the appeal was entirely sealed, there was no public explanation for such a high-level of secrecy.  On March 19, the Law Center moved to unseal the appeal.

On April 17, the Intermediate Court of Appeals denied the motion to unseal.  The ICA explained that the appeal concerned a paternity action.  Although a 2019 law made paternity cases more publicly accessible, that law only affected cases started after January 1, 2021.  The ICA stated that the paternity case in this instance began before that change in the law took effect.
