On October 9, 2026, Public First moved to unseal summary judgment exhibits in Isaac Choy v. State of Hawaii. Choy had asserted several claims against the State, Hawaii Tourism Authority, and certain individuals in connection with the State’s investigation of alleged complaints of workplace discrimination and harassment by Choy. A jury awarded Choy over $500,000 for his claims against the individuals.
Before the jury trial, the defendants filed motions for summary judgment, which were granted in part and denied in part. The defendants, however, filed two documents under seal without first seeking leave of the court. One document was an excerpt from Choy’s deposition testimony. The other document was an investigation report.
Public First’s motion to unseal will be heard by the Honorable Taryn R. Tomasa. No. 1CCV-25-967.
